In 1950, Nathan Clark introduced the classic Desert Boot to the world. It was unlike any Clarks' shoe before it. Modeled after the uncluttered, comfortable boots that his army colleagues found in the bazaars of Cairo, the boot had attitude. It wasn't fashion, yet fashionable folks flocked to it.
The Desert Boot was an international success from Harvard to Hamburg. It was the one thing that Mods and Rockers had in common. Italians forsook their leather loafers for their simple comfort. In France, 'Les Clarks' were the shoes of many misunderstood generations.
In the 1960's, Clarks designed the world's first comfort shoe, a moccasin built on Clarks' nature-formed last. Called the Wallabee, it went on to join the Desert Boot as a timeless classic.
Now, 50 years later, the Clarks Originals Collection is wildly popular again. The Desert Boot, Wallabee, and other timeless styles like the Desert Trek are being sighted everywhere from designer runways to high fashion magazines. Also, trendsetters are abuzz over the recent introductions to the Clarks Originals collection, which are evolutions of styles first introduced in the 1970s. With authenticity, simplicity and comfort the mantra for the new millennium, the timing has never been better for Clarks Originals return to the fashion forefront.
